International food safety conference in Budapest with the participation of WESSLING

A major international conference in the field of food safety was held in Budapest last week. At the CCMAS meeting, with representatives of more than fifty UN member countries, as well as of the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Food Chain Safety Office, the chairman of the Hungarian Working Group was an expert of WESSLING Hungary Kft.

At the event that took place between May 8 and 12, Hungarian policy was represented by Dr. Márton Oravecz, chairman of the National Food Chain Safety Office, and Dr. Lajos Bognár Chief Veterinary Officer, deputy secretary of state of the Ministry of Agriculture responsible for food chain supervision, who reminded participants of the role the Codex played in public health, food chain safety and in fair trade, and of the importance of the independent work of the organization.

„Methods and recommendations that are adopted at his conference will play a decisive role in the food trade of UN member countries” - told to Laboratorium.hu Dr. Tamás János Szigeti of WESSLING Hungary Kft., an independent laboratory that has been carrying out food testing in Hungary for twenty-five years, chairman of the Hungarian Working Group of CCMAS.

At the CCMAS conferences, the review and categorization of these methods, available free of charge to everyone, are performed. Though these documents are not binding, but they serve as the basis for regional and national food regulations, and the recommendations of the Codex Alimentarius are also of great importance when commercial contracts are concluded – explained Tamás Szigeti, who has been coordinating the work of the Hungarian participants of the event for eight years now, in connection with the methods and analytical principles to be discussed in the given year.
