Global plastic contamination – in particular, the ever-presence of particles below 5 mm in size, that is, microplastics in the ecosystem – poses a growing environmental and health hazard.
The WESSLING Group is pioneering research on the analysis of microplastics: we take samples from environmental elements and technical waters to test for microplastics to sizes as small as 10 µm.
Water samples are taken by methods developed by our laboratory.

We determine the sizes and materials of the microplastics to be found in the samples using FTIR microscopes at our laboratory equipped with cutting edge instruments, designed and implemented to meet the special requirements of sample preparation and analysis.
